Michael Matson

Michael is dedicated to his family, the firm’s staff, client families and the community.  Michael’s commitment to the Greater Danbury community is reflected in the local organizations he supports. These include his appointment as past chairman of the Board of Directors for the Regional YMCA of Western Connecticut and serving as chairperson of the Retirement Benefit Advisory Committee for the Town of Brookfield. Michael serves on various church committees and volunteered for 11 years as a youth soccer coach.

Michael lives in Brookfield, CT with his wife, Laurie.  Laurie volunteers at a local pre-school where she shares her Social/Emotional Parenting training and enjoys spending time volunteering at church and exercising daily. His son Kyle graduated from Connecticut College and worked as an account executive at Harrison & Star in NYC for 6 years before joining the professional team at MFA in September 2020.  Kate studied creative writing, history at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and spent a year teaching and living in Madrid Spain. She is a certified group fitness trainer and enjoys coaching at the Ridgefield Orange Theory Fitness studio.

Michael traveled regularly (pre-COVID) to investment conferences and to explore new landscapes and cultures. In recent years he has climbed in the Cascade Mountain range to the 14,000 foot summit of Mount Rainier and climbed the Alps in Chamonix France to the peak of Mont Blanc. He has also hiked the  53 mile loop with his hockey buddies down, across and back up the Grand Canyon. When not exploring he can be found on the ice at Danbury and Ridgefield rinks during winter or golfing with family and friends in the warmer weather. Michael and Laurie enjoy living close to NYC where they find excuses to catch a Broadway show and more importantly, a visit to Madison Square Garden to cheer on the NY Rangers.

In the winter months you can find Michael at the Ridgefield, Canterbury and Danbury Ice rinks where he enjoys playing ice hockey. He also enjoys cycling, golf, exercising at the local YMCA and spending summer evenings on Lake Candlewood. His training paid off with a successful 14,400 foot summit of Mount Rainier in 2013, a 2015 summit of Mt. Adams and a trek across the floor of Grand Canyon (R2R2R) in December 2016.
